That was my truck's odometer when I pulled out of my garage this morning. I thought that was pretty cool.

Voting
It always feels good to vote...an instant sense of pride! Blessed we are to be Americans.
It felt even better to be in and out of my polling place in 7 minutes :-)

Backyard Wildlife
Here are some shots from some recent wildlife spottings in our backyard.
We frequently get deer, which are nice to look at, but they are terrors on our garden. We can not use enough of this to keep them away from our tomatoes and other veggies. They also pretty much destroyed our Annabelle Hydrangeas.
The pics below are from July 11. This momma and her fawn wandered in our neighbor's backyard and our backyard.
The big momma...we saw her a week or so before this, and she was bigger. I assume the fawn was not born yet.
Li'l Bambi...
Bambi had better stay out of that garden if she know's what is good for her!
Where did momma go?
This is an Eastern King Snake I saw while making trips back and forth from the grill last weekend. It was at the foot of our deck steps. Thankfully, it never made a move at me, or I would have had to go all "Crocodile Hunter" on it.

Happy Thanksgiving
Happy Thanksgiving friends and family.
Today, we celebrated Annabelle's first Thanksgiving. We all had a wonderful time. The main course of our feast was a lemon-herb spatchcocked chicken. It was tasty. Dessert was pumpkin bread pudding which was delish. As you can see below, Annabelle did not get her own Thanksgiving costume this year. She got a turkey headband, which she liked to take off. You can see more of her Thanksgiving here.
Here is our Thanksgiving greeting to all of you.
And a Thanksgiving portrait with our very own Butterball.

Say Thanks to the Military
WHO: America Supports You is a Department of Defense program that recognizes citizens' support for our military and their families, at home and abroad, and connects individuals and organizations who wish to directly support the troops and their families. ASY is launching a text messaging program called "Giving Thanks".
WHAT: Giving Thanks is an interactive America Supports You program taking place during the Thanksgiving holiday to offer citizens an opportunity to say thank you to the men and women who serve this nation. Major mobile wireless providers, including AT&T, Verizon, Sprint Nextel, and T-Mobile, provide access to the America Supports You Text Message program.
WHEN: People can text a message of thanks to 8-9-2-7-9, beginning at 6am EST on Saturday, November 17, and ending at midnight, PDT on November 22, Thanksgiving Day.
WHY: The goal is for people to take a moment during the Thanksgiving holiday to think about those who are serving this nation, and act in a way that demonstrates they appreciate their sacrifices. Giving Thanks offers a unifying moment for the nation, during a time in which families traditionally come together and express gratitude for things large and small that contribute to their lives. The United States currently has brave military men and women serving in 177 countries. These troops and their families will be informed about how many people have texted in their thanks and will get to see many of the messages, reminding them that people back home do care.
HOW: On Thanksgiving Day America Supports You will tabulate the number of messages sent to the troops. The volume of text messages will serve as a reminder to our military that the folks back home are grateful for their service.
About America Supports You
Since its formation three years ago, the America Supports You program has welcomed over 300 grassroots organizations and 35 corporate partners to its team. Many America Supports You team members support the troops through letter writing, care packages, helping the wounded when they return home, assisting military families, sending an email, or making a kind gesture—to learn more about how you can help please visit www.AmericaSupportsYou.mil

Happy Birthday Dad
Hey pops. Happy birthday! You would have been 61 today. You would also be a grandpa. Well, you are. Chrissy and I tell Annabelle all about you. She'll know all about you. All the grandkids will, whether they are ours or Jil's. I wish you could hold her. I know you can see her. I know she has blue eyes and blonde hair because that is what you wanted. She would be in trouble though, because we can already tell she is ticklish. You would tickle her to pieces I know. Don't worry. We will always tickle her a little extra just for you. And she'll have to say the magic words to make us stop, just like we did. We miss you so much, and love you so much too.
Can't wait to see you again someday!

Nursery Duty
Well, I am back. My apologies for the hiatus.
Saturday night, C and I had nursery duty at the church we attend. If you use the nursery for your own child, you are asked to volunteer/serve in the nursery once every couple months. We figured that is fair, so we signed up.
I don't know what C expected, but I figured we would be in the same room as AB with a couple other adults. I was wrong. We were assigned the 18-24 month room. I saw on the assignment list that we were the only couple assigned to that room. It was then that I began to get a little nervous.
We were going to keep AB in the room with us, but when we were told that a max of 7 kids may be in the room, we decided that it would be better if she was in her own room. That turned out to be a smart choice.
We weren't given too much in terms of guidance when we got there. From the written instructions we were given, it was basically don't use bad tones of voice and change their diapers every hour (which meant once per kid). I was hoping for a little more once we got there, but we were basically thrown to the wolves.
I learned that separation anxiety is a pretty big deal for kids of this age. Of the 6 total we ended up getting (2 girls, 4 boys), 3 had the separation anxiety pretty bad. Basically, we would distract the kids, the parent would sneak out, the kid would turn around after a minute and realize mommy/daddy was not still standing there, and the kid would begin to cry. That is when the reality of what we were tasked with set in. There is nothing quite like comforting a kid you don't know. At first you feel weird, but then once the kid settles down and starts to trust you, it gets better and feels more comfortable.
There was one little boy that was super cute. Was wearing a bow tie, and seemed really cool. Had no separation anxiety or anything. But...this is what his mother tells us as she gets set to leave...paraphrasing...Z sometimes gets upset. When he does, he holds his breath, and he will pass out. He turns blue and everything. I just want to let you know this is alright (I am thinking ALRIGHT???? Your kids turns blue and passes out, and this is ALRIGHT????). Just make sure to place him on his stomach, and he will start breathing again and come to. This has not happened recently, but he does do this sometimes. I just like to let people know in case it does happen (I am thinking...what have I gotten myself into????)
At this point, I am ready to turn around and go home. Thankfully, Z stayed in good spirits for the hour and a half and decided to keep breathing the whole time.
Overall though, it was a good experience learning what having sextuplets would feel like. I could not imagine twins much less 6!!! C did all the diaper changes while I consoled the two girls who were crying. She did get stuck with the nastiest diaper ever according to her. She is a champ! The kids were cool too and provided some great entertainment. Made me look forward to when AB is that age.
It did feel good though when that first parent came to pick up her kid...that meant the others weren't far behind!

Cornhole!!!
Now, you may be thinking...what the heck is cornhole? That does not sound too polite. Well, it is a beanbag toss game. You toss the bags (which are stuffed with cornfeed) into a hole, kind of like horseshoes. Check out the official site .
Anyway, for Christmas, Chrissy's dad made us a set. It is pretty sweet. Chrissy's goal is VT, and mine is reffing. He did a great job! A couple weeks ago, Chrissy and I sewed and stuffed the bags. Check them out below.

Question...
I heard this yesterday, and thought it was pretty funny.
What are all the Dale Jr. fans going to do with their "8" tattoos? :-)

Some Things I Do Not Understand
Why can't some women take an extra five minutes at home in the morning to put on their makeup?
I saw two women this morning on my drive to work applying different forms of makeup. I can kind of understand the one at a stoplight applying powder or something with a brush. But the lady in front of me applying mascara and lipstick while the moving and looking into the visor mirror...come on now. Do these ladies keep makeup in their glove box?
Isn't this illegal? Maybe there should be makeup laws instead of cell phone laws.

Century

Anyhow, Ward Burton and his Morgan-McLure Motorsports #4 car are sporting VT colors this weekend in Phoenix! And he made the race to boot! Also, all cars at the race will be sporting a VT memorial sticker on their cars. NASCAR has received permission from Virginia Tech to display the school’s logo on race cars for the next three weeks, in a tribute to the victims of this week’s shootings at the university's Blacksburg, Va. campus. The logo will be displayed against a black background on the “B-post” – the area just to the right of the driver’s side window net – of cars competing in Nextel Cup Series and Busch Series events at Phoenix, Talladega (April 28-29) and Richmond (May 4-5). Additionally, trucks competing in the Craftsman Truck Series event April 28 at Kansas Speedway also will display the logo.
